I originally posted this last week in response to Patrick George's video where in his Camaro press car he was able to shut the car off via his knee, per the recall.

I thought "Oh man, that key looks a LOT like the one Mazda has used since 2006 or so, let's try it on the wife's car when I get home."

Sure as shit, I was able to turn it off, after getting close enough to the wheel to not be uncomfortable, but not an unreasonable position to drive in, say if you're carrying something long, or your rear passengers have long legs, or you're built funny and have short arms/long thighs.

Sorry for not trying to be humorous, I really didn't think it would work on the first try.

Dont know if you saw the one on my Civic but it failed and doesnt even have a switch blade key. And I had my seat where I normally drive. It wasnt that hard to do either!

Hmm, RECALL ALL THE KEYS!

Yeah, it seems like it depends on the angle of the key head, and its size once it's in the RUN position. Tried it on my Toyota and since it was on the dash, there wasn't enough room for my knee to even BE in a position to push the key off.

Can't wait to see some mandatory button action soon.

I like turning a key, but the button is nice.

im just amazed watching yours how flimsy the key was! That seemed dangerous in itself like the base could snap off

Many of the 'switch-blade' style keys are flimsy like this.

Maybe I was doing it wrong, but I tried it in my car ('08 Mazda3 - no switchblade key, just a regular one) and I couldn't even get my knee close enough to hit the key.

Gonna try this with the Jetta when it comes back next week. It probably uses the key that started all the hype of the switchblade.

Scary crap. I was going to get a switch blade key for my IS, but after seeing that, no way.

It's a crap design, they wear out and break all the time. I was a bit rough with mine as I didn't really care if I broke it.
